Default Detox Advice Needed!!

I have visited this site many times and I’m writing in because I’m frustrated, depressed and desperate. I have been addicted to pain meds for over 8 years now. Two years ago I made my first attempt to quit. At that time I was up to 260 mg. of Oxycontin daily and used Subotex to painlessly come off this drug. I relapsed several months after. In November 2004 I quit again by using Suboxone. Again, painless but then I got addicted to the Suboxone and it was very difficult to stop. I was born with a brittle bone condition and at the age of 43, I have osteoporosis. I have titanium rods in both of my femurs so I have pain off and on. The Dr. put me on Buprunex injections and this helped my pain somewhat.

In September 2005, I woke up with excruciating pain in the thorasic area of my spine and an MRI showed I had 2 vertebra’s with serious fractures and several vertebra’s with old benign fractures. [V] The orthopedic put me on Percocet. It didn’t take very long for my body and mind to want more and right now I’m at 360 mg. of Oxycodone that I normally take within a 9 hour period. I sleep at least 12 hours and have to take 90 mg just to get out of bed. I have always worked great jobs but I can’t now because I don’t feel I’m reliable and physically and mentally, I’m a mess. My husband supports us – no kids thank God. Our credit card debt is to the sky due to my addiction.

I have spent so much money on my addiction and detox attempts. I want to try this on my own at home. Has anyone used “NutraCleanse” for opiate detoxing? It is a natural product you use like nose drops. My main question here is has anyone used this product to detox? [?] If anyone has, please tell me your experience with it and have you been able to remain clean. Any other advice for detoxing on your own would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you. [^]

Hi Sunset,

Your story is heartbreaking. Wont you be in pain if you come off the meds. I mean, do you think you need them? Why don't you just get on suboxone again and stay on that. I got down to 1mg and could have stayed there the rest of my life. I'm not sure how to help you.

the pain i have doesn't justify me taking the amount of oxycodone i'm taking.
the reason i'm not wanting to take the suboxone route is because of the cost. it's just too expensive and for the first time in the 16 years my husband and i have been together, we're in extreme credit card debt thanks to my addiction.
i thought that maybe i could detox at home on my own. i found out about this product called "nutracleanse" which is supposed to help with withdrawl symptoms but i was hoping maybe somebody out there has tried it and could give me some feedback as to if it really helps. from other forums i have found out ways to ease the withdrawl symptoms like hot baths, excercises, b complex... but i was hoping to get some more tips before i start to help ease withdrawl.

thanks for your response [^]

Do you have insurance? My insurance paid for my suboxone and it cost less than 30.00 month

i have insurance but i've already used my 1 lifetime use allowed for drug addiction care which i used with an outpatient program my first time around.
the only doctors i can find that are licensed to subscribe suboxone want $100.00 for each visit which is every 3 - 4 weeks. they won't take insurance.

I had that problem too, but I worked my way around it. I went to a pain management specialist that could prescribe suboxone. My initial appointment was just as a new patient, not as a patient for the suboxone clinic. Anyway, he tapered me down and then put me on suboxone. There are other things they can prescribe it for. I don't think my insurance ever even new it was for opiet addiction. If I were you I would call the Doctor's and discull the situation with their billing department, try to get seen as a new pain patient and work with the Doctor on a program. Let me know if you have any questions

thanks ginafl. i am seriously thinking of using the suboxone again because it really worked so well the second time a tried to detox. i don't think i'm going to be too successful trying it all on my own at home without some outside help.
thanks again! [^]

Hi all im new to this forum but bean reading on this website for a few weeks now. It really has helped encourage me to get help with my pain pill addiction. Two weeks ago I came out to my brother, sisters, Mom and Dad.

I have had five surgerys on various parts of my body in a 9 year time period. I have always been able to come off the medication in the past but have to say looking back now that I did abuse it. In Febuary of 05 I started taking vicodin for an ankle injury that required surgery but I did't have the time to get the surgery until November. Well long story short I got hooked even found someone to buy from off the streets. I'm now in a financial mess behind on the morgage the whole works.

When I came out to the family I had already made an appointment with a Phsyciatrist who perscribs suboxene but the appointment wasn't until the 13th (last Thursday). This forum and my family really helped get me there.

I started the suboxone on last Friday the 14th and took my popped my last pills at 4:30pm on the 13th. I know that the sub is still just the begining and technically still taking something but I have to say that for the first time in over a year I FEEL NORMAL AGAIN. I know that I still have a challenge ahead of me but i'm taking it on.

Guess i'll get to the point. The phsyciatrist I went was real up front and honest he told the sub is addictave and I may be on it a while. The way I see it this is a long battle that i'm going through but I anishiated the fight and with the sub I feel it puts the ball in my court. Just having the knowing that i don't have to track down pills and not having to worry about the withdraw has been a big boost.

Thanks for the time to read this and the inspiring storries and appologive for the horrible spelling.

I am so glad the suboxone is working for you. How much are you taking? Try to wean down as soon as possible not to get off but just to the lowest dosage you can handle. I went from 2mg a day to about .5mg a day in about three weeks and stayed there for four months before going off. I will admit it still is not that easy to be off. It's only been a month and I want opiets so bad it hurts. i want a baby more though, so i am doing the best I can. I got hooked because instead of a Doctor giving me a CT scan he just kept giving me pills and telling me there was nothing wrong. Finally after 2 years my back was getting worse and worse I finally found out I had two herniated disks and scoliosis. Now tell me that two years of pain killers won't hook someone. I know some of it is my fault, but some of it has to be my pill docs? Right? They have to know this happens. My addiction doc says this happens all the time. I just wish i would stop craving. I still get the goosebumps like 30 times a day. I am not sick anymore but I definately don't feel comfortable. I swear if i didn't want to have children I would have stayed on the sub a lot longer maybe forever. I just have to remember not to beat myself up over this. 'm rambling. Have a wonderful night everyone.

I too am in a similar problem to all of you . I had multiple car accidents as a cab owner in Ann Arbor Michigan . I was hit from behind very hard twice while stopped and a few times while making turns . After 8 years I am so addicted and sick from pills . I fear detox worse the death itself . I am alergic to suboxone or at least it still makes me very uncomfortable plus my legs swell. I found it terrible myself . They tell me I need Lamm or Methadone to get down . I know I can't do it myself . My drugs are paid for by my car insurance but they refused inpatient treatment . I begged them a few years back after I detoxed on suboxone for 4 months which gave me excellent pain relief but gave me serious mental anxiety that was suicidel in nature . I had started to get impacted all the time and was always so sick so I had that motivation .

I cried so much when I finnaly gave into severe pain and went back on opiates . The Doctors recomended it too . Now I just was diagnosed with Narcotic Bowel Syndrome and told I may have to have a colostomy becuase of the opiates . These new Doctors never tell the truth about the downside of any of these meds they are all so terrible . Most of my injuries are from treatment for my accident injuries . I would say over 50% of my problems are from treatment for the original problem now if not more .

I can empathise with your plight . I surely do . If you can get by on the suboxone I would defn find a pain management practise with a psychiatrist on staff that will use it for pain on you . That advice is the best tip here . If you need ideas try looking for perscribers under a suboxone license search or look at adictionologists at the medicare.gov site . I am now on medicare and disabled so I can get perscription coverage . Many makers of drugs also have programs that distribute medication based on assets and income . You may qualify don't assume you do not without looking into it . Same with some hospitals they have discount plans for those that fit income test or certain programs . I have lost everything , my business , my health , my sanity and see no end it sight and nowhere to really go for help that will make a difference at a reasonable cost .

I will try to keep track of this thread . I have seen some boards where people give out info schedules on how much to wean down . Also they sujest using ginger ale , pot ( I wonder about that ) and vitamen supplements like the sublingual b-12 , fish oil tablets , and clonadine for elevated blood presure . Sadly I think most of us really need hospitilization for at least the first week . I know I go completely out of my mind for months . I have never made it past 4 weeks . I try so hard ...I am worn out . They say the withdrawls are not fatel but I have seen strokes occur it is a lie . Good luck everyone your in my prayers . 47 m thought I seen everything until this happened to me all nice and legal from Doctors care . There just is no real help out there .

There will be better days !!!
