Default confused methadone prescribed... addiction

her is a little bit about my story, about 2.5-3 years ago i started using percocet for a little bit of back pain and the high that it gave me. was using around 2-3 5mg a day. then about 8-9 months ago i started using more averaging around 8-10 pills a day.. basicaly around 35mg - 50 mg of oxycodone a day, just depending on the pills i was able to get..i would take them orally or snort some. last week around midweek i had enough of the pills and was trying to get off of them cold turkey. by day 2 i bascally could not take it anymore. i called my primary care doctor, he was out of town so a another doctor consulted with me. she suggested me taking methadone.. starting out at 2.5 mg every 8 hours for 3 days then taking 5mg 3 times a day every 8 hourse for the next 4 days. then schuduled my next visit for yesterday, to see if the dose needed to be adjusted ..increased..etc.. i went back, my normal doctor disagreed with the previos doctor and said for me to basically tuff it out... i was surpridsed in away, i thought the methadone was helping... i did fill some physical withdrawel for about 4 days , but it got better after that... also helped my depresion and i did not even think of taking any percocets or wanting them... so basically i took my last methadone this morning, just waiting now for the withdrawels to kick in... does this sound normal for a doctor to do? should i look into soboxone treament.. at a lose here and dreading the withdrawels that are coming........

I don't think there is ANY way that you should be on methadone after using a few percs for three years. That is crazy, I agree totally with your first dr. Methadone is fine for the right person, but you are a LONG ways from needing methadone based on what you've said. You should thank your dr.

You can check out the following link for the Thomas Recipe. It's a way to lessen the w/d symptoms you'll experience. Lots of people use this and it helps. God bless.
