Lorazepam (Ativan) is not the same drug as Alprazolam (Xanax). They are both benzodiazepines and basically serve the same purpose (decreasing anxiety, sedation, etc.) but they are two different drugs made by two different companies. In my humble opinion 1mg of Ativan (Lorazepam) would be a little more sedating than 1mg of Xanax, but then everyone reacts differently to medications.
