Question Confused...?

I'm not sure if I posted this in the right place just now,so I'll try here as well,as I REALLY am anxious to know the answer to this question..
"The pharmacist told me that the 1 MG Xanax are the SAME as the 1MG Lorazepam...but it doesn't feel the same....?
What is the difference?
BTW,Thanks alot for ANY help
Sincerely,
T.

Dear Leelee:

Lorazepam (Ativan) is not the same drug as Alprazolam (Xanax). They are both benzodiazepines and basically serve the same purpose (decreasing anxiety, sedation, etc.) but they are two different drugs made by two different companies. In my humble opinion 1mg of Ativan (Lorazepam) would be a little more sedating than 1mg of Xanax, but then everyone reacts differently to medications.

Default Hmmm?

It just seems as though the Lorazepam isn't working so good for me...I've taken more than the doc perscribed and now I'm low....and yesssss,I KNOW I shouldn't have taken them ANY other way than the way the doc prescribes, but w/ the anxiety I have,I didn't seem to have a choice. Also is there another something that can be prescribed?
Thanks 4 the advice!!!!!

Default A couple of things

Leelee, you need to talk with your doc. If the ativan is not controlling the issue then an adjustment in your meds is needed. There are some combinations of different meds that might help. But you need to talk it over with your doc. Also.. just a question ... are you in some type of therapy? It's been my experience that coming at an anxiety dx with more than just meds has a better outcome.
