Question Child allergic to Augmentin S

My child has been prescribed Augmentin S yesterday. After administering first three dosage she developed a swollen face.
Is she allergic or not and what can help prevent or treat the allergy?
Can I continue with the dosage for the full course?

Hi tsikem, I would say that this is an allergic reaction. I would call her pediatrician right away and let them know...what they will do is prescribe her another antibiotic. I would NOT continue with anymore doses until you have spoke with the dr. again. Hope she gets better soon

Default Thank you ME717

Thank you for your response. I did take my child to a pediatrician and he said that was not an allergic reaction but a condition related to her tooth ache. He confirmed that it had nothing to do with the antibiotic, so we had to continue with the full course. today she is well and the swelling has reversed.

Once again thank you for your response.

For anyone who read this post, be very careful when an anitbiotic causes swelling. Even if you are not sure, do NOT continue the antibiotic until you know for sure the cause. My son almost died from his tongue swelling due to a reaction to antibiotics. If it had not been for quick thinking (I headed straight for a fire station as we lived in the country) he would have died. This is nothing to play around with.

Glad to know you child did not have an allergic reaction!

Penicillin antibiotics are known to have the highest rate of allergic reactions.
The penicillin allergy results from the formation of an allergen when the beta-lactam ring reacts with a terminal amine on a lysine residue in a polypeptide. Every time a person is exposed to this allergen, their immune system will sometimes cause an hypersensitivity (anaphylactic) reaction (from http://www.emedexpert.com/facts/amox...te-facts.shtml).
