Hello,
I think your drugs are your problem - that level of antidepressants, plus
xanax and others which are known to increase the action of
lexapro and such drugs, are sending your adrenal glands over the edge (ssri's such as lexapro 'work' by doubling your cortisol levels.. after a time, many people 'burn' out, xanax use will only compound and compound the problem. Your adrenals are out of whack, shooting cortisol out all the time = constant, long term panic attacks - awful, I know.
You need to start weaning off of the drugs, albeit very slowly. But I would suggest reading Dr. Stuart Shipko's website (do a search, one site is
http://www.stuartshipko.com/) and perhaps even contacting him.. he is a panic disorder expert, has written books, and has a great clinic.. very very good man. Also look up the Safe Harbor Site at
http://www.alternativementalhealth.com/ site, they have excellent doctors, and help people to truly be helped, without medication... Dr. Shipko is on the board of directors of this international research group -- he has excellent credentials..
Please read
www.antidepressantsfacts.com site to learn more about antidepressants and the way they 'work'..( or don't work actually!) plus other drugs.. (make sure the spelling is correct.) There are many links on there to doctors, and more research, that will hopefully lead you in the right direction. Also
www.theroadback.com is an excellent site for help in weaning off of antidepressants, xanax and other drugs in the best way -- plus more research and links..
I had a bad reaction to a few days of antidepressants given for sleep, and am still recovering (8 months later). They caused horrible anxiety for me, now which is completely gone. Sleeping medications also caused panic attacks in me as well - some people are poor metabolizers, and this is what I discovered. Xanax is very very well known to be an addictive substance, leading to greater anxiety and more panic attacks -- Dr. Shipko is an expert on xanax and it's effects. I wrote to him, and he actually called me, and helped me out - he is very helpful.
I know what it is like to have that kind of panic attacks - but I also know that it is a biological problem, caused, in so many many people, by the drugs you are on -- I sincerely hope these contacts and links will help you like they did me!!
take care,
EM
