Default buprenorphine vs. suboxone

I signed up with a website that matches you with a doctor that prescribes buprenorphine. Is this like sub? I got a message to call and set up an appointment and he's right here in town. So I'll call today. I am desperate for anything! Does anyone have experience with this? I'm sure I'll find out when I go, but wanted to know "real people" if you, stories.

Thank you,

Amy

I'm reading that the two are the same. Is this true?

There are two drugs with the names suboxone and subutex. They are both buprenorphene the only difference being that suboxone has nalexone(sp) in it and subutex is strait buprenorphene. The only reason for the nalexone is to stop addicts from injecting it.If you inject suboxone you will go into withdrawls right away.0Both of these pills are taken sublingualy and the nalexone is not effective when taken this way.So as long as your not trying to shoot this stuff then they are both the same thing, buprenorphene.Get on this drug as fast as you can as you will be amazed at how well you will feel.Good luck.....Dave

The whole "Naloxone" thing is a big scam. It does nothing that doctors say it will. I heard from literally everyone that you will go into w/d's if you snort/inject/ect, or if you mix it with another opiate. I also heard that you won't catch a buzz if you use another opiate because there is a blocked.

However, I know from personal experience that by blowing Suboxone, as well as mixing it with another opiate (at the same time, maybe two minutes apart, BTW) will in fact, get one much more buzzed than by just taking the opiate. As well, if you do a bunch of Suboxone by itself you'll catch a good buzz.

We are talking about recovery here, most addicts that are at the stage were they take buprenorphene or methadone are way past the days of getting a buzz......Dave

Please don't take this in a mean way Oxy, but I don't want a buzz. I want HELP. I don't plan on snorting, shooting, etc. I just want help from the withdrawls and help with the deep bouts of depression I know comes with getting off of these awful pills. I am counting down the days until I see this doctor. I go tomorrow for an evaluation then see the doctor on the 24th. I put my name on a register at NAABT and finally got the message to call. That email may have saved my life. I now have hope where there was none. So again, I appreciate the advice, but I have no interest in doing the things you stated about nalaxone. I wanna be clean and enjoy life again without the help of vicodin. Which all it does anymore is make me sick. I could not tell you the last time I got the high that it used to give. Anywho, I got to rambling and I apolologize. Thank you for your post, but it is not for me.

i went to a suboxone clinic yesterday after being on pills for 3 years and methadone on 7 months. the suboxone made me feel 3x worse than i already felt. i decided to do it on my own. instead of paying a doc thousands to make me feel worse.

Met with the nurse yesterday and go at 5:00 next Tuesday to start the sub/buprenorphine. I am so excited and feel like finally I am on the track to having my life back. I know I have a lot of work ahead of me, but now I'll have tools to help me. I can hardly wait. Thank you all for your support.

Amy,
Hey I've been taking pain meds for about 2 yrs & trying to get off of em for a while. I would always have bad withdrawals & end up taking pain meds to stop it..The withdrawals are so bad. I wouldn't get outta bed until i found meds to take. It's horrible how it messes up your life so quick & you don't even realize it until you try to stop.

I went to a doctor, I found off of the Suboxone website, 10 days ago and have been taking Suboxone. I have had no withdrawals & no cravings. I can finally go to work & school. I feel somewhat normal again. After my appoitment, I told my family & my close friends of my addiction problem. Having everyone close to me know helps me want to stay off of pain pills even more.

I'm taking the Suboxone (with the naloxone)which is the orange pill. I take 4mg twice a day. At the doctor office, he tried giving me the Subutex (the one without the naloxone) which is a white pill. The Subutex had a very strong taste & the Suboxone is a little milder. The only difference is the naloxone being in one and not the other.

You will feel so much better once you get started with your treatment. It really is amazing how you will feel physically normal again! I've been getting up early & going out..going to work & school. I feel like I'm getting my life back. It has helped me! I think it will work for you! You're going to get better!

Good luck on Tuesday!!!

Thank you so much for saying that, I needed to hear it. I just took my last pills so I should be in heavy withdrawl by the time 5:00 Tuesday rolls around. I'm just so scared about it all. Thank you so much for your encouragement. You have made me feel like I have made a great choice and that I can do this.

Have a great night.

Went to my appointment, went real well. Started meds and I have to go to weekly meetings then this 12 day program. Still reading it all over. I am on 2MG Suboxone 4 times a day (that'll help mentally always wanting to go in my purse for a pill I think) and then he put me on Clonidine for narcotic withdrawl and then Methocarbamol for muscle spasms. So far so good. He's not on my insurance, but luckily my meds are, so that helps. We'll see how tomorrow goes. But again, so far so good.

Any suggestions on letting the Suboxone dissolve? I keep getting so much saliva and they say not to swallow it, that the pills have to be absorbed in your mouth. I think I'll call tomorrow and ask.

Thanks to everyone!!!!

Amy... Glad things went well! I was looking for you on the other thread..was worried when I didn't see you but found you over here... As for the sub.. No real help on the pill other than trying to tuck it in back under your tongue as far as possible .. when you get the saliva and swallow it.. I think that is why some people get sick from it. I was originally prescribed 2 mg x4 also..it does "help" in a way taking them like you would your d.o.c. but it also reinforces that behavior. I have found myself reaching for the sub when I am stressed out etc thinking it will help...sometimes it does...My doctor is trying to get me away from that by taking one large dose in the morning but so fa haven't been able to get away from taking them throughout the day. It's not necessarily like I physically feel I need them but it is so much the habit of taking pills!! Try as much as possible to keep to a regular dosing schedule, but don't take more than you need. All that more diffficult to get off later. Keep us informed on how you are doing!!

Thanks Lisa. I never thought about what you said about just taking it once a day. In a way, taking like I am is reinforcing the same "reach for a pill" behavior. I go back Nov. 15th, and I will talk about that or maybe will today. I have to call him today to let him know how the dose is doing. Today will be a test. I'm so used to grabbing some pills every few hours at work, and today I won't have that. Time will tell....

Have a great Lisa, and thanks again!!!
