Back pain...

Hey, Im not too sure if this is the right place to post this but i didnt know where else i would. Im 17, and i have been having back pains for a while now. my dad has back pains too. the reason why i have back pains is because that one of my legs is shorter then my other one and ive been to doctors and they gave me pads to put in one of my shoes... but ive been using that for like almost 2 years... and nothing is changing... i want to be put on some painkillers and see how it works out cause i have no other ideas... is this a good idea or what? and if i wanted to... do i need parents permission to talk to my doctor and ask them to put me on painkillers? cause i know my mom wouldnt do that for me cause she thinks i may get addicted to them. but... my back has been in pain for years and my mom knows that for a fact. and which would be the best painkillers for this type of situition?

i would definately talk to your mom first before you do anything, that way you can both approach your doctor together. above all else do not get started taking an opiate pain killer. the hell it will turn yours and your parents life into is not worth it. there are a lot of choices out there that are non addicting including physical therapy. please talk to your parents and don't experiment on your own with rx painkillers. they are very bad news, take it from someone who has been to hell and back with them. they do not fix the problem, they only cover it up and then pretty soon they don't even cover up the pain anymore, so one must take more and more which is how the addiction occurrs. the best way i have found now is to tackle the root of the problem and not the result. as in prevent the back problems through other means. good luck and write back

i have actullay went to physical therpy for a few months... it kinda work... but the pain just never goes away. the pain only went away while i was at the PT place. and what do you mean by opiate? sorry. dont know to much about painkillers and such. thanks

an opiate painkiller is any of the oxycodone/hydrocodone family such as: percocet, norco, vicodin, vicoprofin, roxicet, etc. very addictive and hella bad withdrawal to quit (like stopping heroin usage).

Hey bravo I feel for you man, I just turned 20 and have been in 6 car wrecks, 3 of them which should've been fatal. I was originally prescribed 5mg percocet a few years ago for some broken bones which were a result of the one of the wrecks. At the time I was just gettin into drugs so I had the bright idea to snort them. Well After a few scripts for that I began snorting and shooting up 80mg oxycontin...which for all intents and purposes is the strongest painkiller which comes in a pill form...that turned into a fentaynl habit...which resulted in a heroin addiction. The point I'm tryin to make is that it all got started by takin 5mg percocet...which isn't really A SUPER strong opaite, but is strong enough for someone w/o a high tolerance to opaites. I was spending about $1500 a week on heroin and painkellers along with methadone. Do some research on prescription painkillers and you'll see some of the nightmares they will cause. Please man...DO NOT get started on them...it is truely torture to go through coming off of them. Any questions feel free to ask...take it easy

I can't see any doctor prescribing an opiate pain killer to a 17 year old at least not prescribe chronically.If you could take them only when needed then it would be less of a chance of you growing dependent on them.Ethically a doctor likely won't prescribe for long term.Have you been to a pain clinic???I don't doubt for a minute that you do not have pain but you need to do everything possible before you give into taking opiates.It sounds as though this is going to be a lifelong disability for you and that's why any doctor would worry about starting you on opiates so early but that doesn't mean that they can't prescribe them to you once in awhile because it's been proven that you're beyond just extra strength tylenol.Good luck to you and I hope you can get this solved......Dave

Hi, Bravo, very sorry to hear about your problems.

Pain killers will not solve the problem, they will only relieve the symptom but will do nothing with the cause of your pain. You know the prime cause of your back pain, I think it's better to do something with it (though I don't know what exactly) than to be put on pain meds.
