Default Am I addicted?

When I run out of hydrodone I am soooo miserable I could die! The physical pain and mental anguish is unbearable, I know this is withdrawal but does that mean I am addicted or physically dependent? For the past two years, all I know is that the pills give me the ability to do normal daily activities that I couldn't without them although I do take more than prescribed at times and have needed more to obtain the same results. Yes, I like the way they make me feel but I love that the pain in my back and hips goes away or at least manageable. So what do you think, am I an addict? Thank you everyone for this forum!

You really answered your question by going through withdrawal. That's a big YES!

I am going to absolutely agree with Laguria's response and say a big "YES. You are addicted".

You answered your own question so I don't know how you might have thought otherwise.

Clues:

1) "You are miserable when you run out" - That's the effects of the physical WD's from Narcotics. You may NOT be at the point of psychological dependence yet but......

2) "You take more than prescribed" - You have built up a tolerance to them hence, you enjoy the feeling of Euphoria as well as the pain management they provide and....

3) "I like the way they make me feel" - There you have it. You are addicted. No getting around the fact that for the last two years you have taken Narcotics and your body (as well as mind) have become accustomed to the "great feeling" they give you so as you should know by now....you are addicted.

There are a couple of good threads with many posts very similar to yours (content wise) that will shed more light on your addiction.

Sorry to sound sort of "cold" in my post but I don't know how you could have thought otherwise ESPECIALLY, if you have (had) read many of the above mentioned posts that are literally "stuck" on the first page of the forums with people asking about problems that are almost IDENTICAL to yours.

Regards,

J

Yeah, I suppose that did sound like a stupid question, I guess maybe I should of asked, Is it ok to be addicted if it's the only thing that helps the pain consistently? Is it possible for anybody not become addicted after a couple years, no matter how intense the pain?

Thanks

We all have different metabolisms but I have never known anyone who did hydro a few times a day for a couple of years not to be addicted.

My Dr says do not worry about it. If the times come when you need to get off I will just detox you. He feels like the benefits of the oxy/hydro are more important than the negative stuff that comes with withdrawals. I have had to detox several times and do not think he has an appreciation for all the fun that comes along with w/d.
