If you mix ANY narcotics (yes alcohol and pot are narcotics because you can develop dependancy [tolerance mainly]) they will multiply the effects of the drugs. Xanax + alcohol(and barbituets-sleep meds) act on the same neurotransmiter (alc. inhibits GABA while Xanax increases its effectiveness...(hence why over doses have the same symptoms) Adding opiates (which includes methadone) to that which has a side effect of drowsieness have an extreamly high chance of killing you). oxycontin + stimulents such as cocain (a schedual 2 so this can be legaly perscribed...) have opposit effects which can be life threatening. Alcohol+energy drinks = in high doses can be life threatening because the opposite effects they have.... and so on

i post this because i noticed alot of people had questions about mixing drugs and i dont recomend it even if your an addict (who uses high doses of a substance because of tolerance) who isnt willing to seek treatment. Even the addict values life.

Okay, so I'm on 200 mg of sertraline and 150 mg (twice daily) of wellbutrin. meaning im on an SSRI and NDRI (<- only put on this to ease my anxiety problems since zoloft completely took care of my depression), my doctor wants to switch me to an SNRI (effexor is likely) if wellbutrin doesn't work out. How would this be different from what im currently on besides the dopamine aspect and the actual drug thats inside the med.

Also how is giving anything that increases the amount of Norepinephrine in the nervous system going to help with anxiety? With it being so related to adrenaline it seems like it would only increase anxiety through its excititory processes (cant find understandable info on the little inhibitory functions it has). I would assume that since the SSRI took care of the depression so well that the anxiety must be a comorbid disorder that isnt effected on the seritonin, noipinephrine (on the NDRI), and dopamine systems... which only leaves gaba related drug options and antipsychotics which would lower dopamine which is bad for an unmotivated person (yes im going to therapy on a weekly basis and practicing it but less dopamine would be a horrible idea), and noripinephrine (less anxiety but BAD side effects possible, i think i might rather be addicted than have tartive dysconisia [spelt wrong im pretty sure])
I dont want to have to go through 50 meds before finding the right thing (if i find it), i lived with anxiety for too long already. (frequent panic attacks (associated with agoraphobia) which interfere with creating any relationships romantic and platonic)

it would be awesome If anyone can answer my above questions, you would and more help than a Neuroscience teacher (bio psychology) and an arrogent Psychiatrist.

Before I even ask these things, I am NOT drug seeking or looking for a new drug to try to "get high" or anything like that. After reading so many posts about Ultram, etc...I have a few questions:

1. Is Ultram a Narcotic? Or NOT? Seems a lot say no, but then I also read so many W/D stories.......If it is NOT an Opiate/Narcotic, what exactly, would you get "addicted" to?

2. And why does a "high/euphoric" feeling happen to about 50% of Patients......if it's not an Opiate....

3. Lastly, I heard somewhere that you can't take Opiates while on Ultram, I heard that puts you into immediate W/D. ? ?

I just wanted to know this so that I can better understand what people are posting about...because as far as this Medication goes...I am clueless.

Thanks.

methadone dosing??? why so high??

Can anyone tell me what the general dosing method is for methadone for doctors/clinics??

I feel like every thread I have read says that people start on 8o-100 mgs when they switch to methadone from oxycontin/opiates... isnt this way too high?? I know that people in legitimate pain will be dosed differently..

I started taking methadone by accident when I brought some on a trip overseas in case I ran out of Oxys (which I did). I did not have any DR or clinic telling me what dose to start at.. i had no experience with methadone at all so I took one or two 10mg pills per day at the most! i felt fine never had any w/d symptoms... and I was taking 320 mgs of oxycontin per day which is relatively high right?

Im only asking because I feel like withdrawals are alot due to anxiety and mental issues that we cause ourselves, so when a clinic tells us we should be on 100mg of methadone we feel "sick" if we take 80mg that day.

Does anyone else have experience with this? Or agree with me? I'm not trying to be judgemental in any way toward people on high doses. Rather, I want people to know that they CAN taper themselves down if they can beat the mind-games that withdrawals cause us...

Has anyone else started themselves on methadone and were fine on a lower dose? Some people have told me that clinics purposefully dose you high to keep you coming back... any input?

Hey guys,
I'm in a bind and I would sincerely appreciate ANY help you can offer...

I was in a bad accident 3 years ago..docs put me on percocet..vicodin..etc..my pain was so severe for months. But I always loved how they made me feel, so of course I kept the prescriptions coming even when the pain had subsided..by this point I was physically addicted..and eventually became a full blown addict. I moved on to Oxys for a better high and the rest is history. For about a year I was taking oxys and buying them on the street. Stole money, jewelry, anything i could from friends and family.
I was finally so disgusted by myself that when a dealer gave me some methadone for back up if i ran out of oxys.. I was so happy to take the methadone and feel normal again! I wasn't high and passing out every minute..stopped needing money because the methadone was 1/4 the price of oxys. I could LIVE MY LIFE free of oxys! Methadone saved me...

My problem is this: I finally got my life back on track and have been studying in a medical program and am going to be drug tested in a week or two (we have to go get the urine test done sometime in the next 2 weeks)before we start internships in the hospitals. I do not have a doctor prescribing methadone, and my program would look very poorly on me being on it and being a recovering addict. I CANNOT tell them I am on methadone or any of my past. People are quick to judge when it comes to addicts...

Here is my situation..I was on 40mg and now am on 2mg! I have been tapering myself...I haven't had really any withdrawals just a little trouble sleeping. I need to get to 0mg and fast because I hear methadone can stay in your system for a long time. I am at the point where I need to be off the methadone like TODAY if I want to pass the test...as far as I know..? I have come too far to be kicked out because of 2mg of methadone.

Does anyone have any advice/comments/previous experience with methadone drug testing? Or do you know how methadone stays in your system when it is such a small dose? Please help!

I'm 26 years old, female, 5'7 130lbs

I don't have medical insurance and need info if anyone would be so kind.

The interaction checker reads "major drug drug", however I did a little research on the net, and even called a couple Walgreen's pharmacists, and came to the conclusion that it should be ok to mix the two, and that in fact, many people do mix them together.

Does anyone have any experience combining adderall with SSRI's?
Any comments and/or help would be greatly appreciated..

I had a Decadron 10mg.- 2.5cc Im yesterday for gout in my right foot, which had lingered with great pain for 2 weeks. I have had the same injections a couple times prior to 2004 with perfect success.

Within 12-16 hours all pain is gone. It has also worked perfect in the previous injections. My sore beet red foot is now white with no inflammation.

My question:

My same right knee is bone on bone with a bad Meniscus and in pain daily. Till I received the Decadron Im yesterday.

Has anyone heard of Deca injections for knee pain? This is wonderful and hope it lasts a bit.

How long could my dose last with knee pain relief? 1 week- 2 months- a year?

How often may this steroid, at this dose be injected with pain relief benefits?

You answers are much appreciated

My son was taking Suboxone for his opiate addiction, and also Lexapro for the related depression. He has now stopped both approx. 2 wks ago. He is , of course, having multiple withdraw symptons, including diarehea (Immodium for this), stomach cramping, insomnia, and complete lack of motivation or desire to get outta bed. If anyone out there has gone thru this, and can give some advice we'd both appreciate it. How long does it last, etc. etc.
I told him that he should not have stopped taking the Lexapro the way he did, and also that he needs it now to help him thru the Sub withdraw, but he's determined to be completely drug free.
I do admire that, but "I" think that he may need alittle more help with the meds until hopefully, God willing, he becomes "Clean and Sober".
Please, any input anyone has would be great.
Thanks
