Can somebody tell me what the difference is between xanax and the time release xanax.

Xanax XR is a time-release formula of the same drug a xanax (alprazolam). While I'm not sure of it's exact release mechanism, it is designed to give a constant level of the drug in your body over a period of 5-11 hrs.
