Default Xanax withdrawls....

Hiya everyone.....

I was just wondering if anyone else here has experienced the horrible ride that Xanax withdrawl takes you on!!!!!!

My husband has been on them for over 3 years for panic attacks and anxiety....he ended up on about 6 - 8mg a day.... he wasn't always regular with taking them, but i noticed that he would be terribly agitated when he hadn't had any for a few days.....It took a while to figure it all out, but we realised he needed to get off the Xanax as they were causing more mental health issues that he just doesnt need on top of what he already copes with.....

He is now down to 2mg a day....It has taken many weeks to even get to this stage.....he is still getting horrible withdrawals such as headaches, dry mouth and incredible thirst, agoraphobia, depression is worse, anxiety is worse, insomnia and many more things.......

Can anyone share their experiences with this withdrawal so he doesnt feel like he is the only one and going insane!!!!!!

Thanks in advance......Jassy..xx...

It's great that your husband is trying to get off the benzodiazepines. They can be very helpful for short term use but they were never meant for long term use and this is the doctors faults for prescribing them this way.Now on to your husband. The best thing he could do would be to switch over to valium and here's why.Xanax has a very short half-life and therefore your poor husband is in withdrawl 90% of the time even though he is taking 2 mgs.Valium has a very long half-life and he would likely only need to take it once maybe twice a day at first.Google "The Ashton Manual".This is a self help guide for getting off benzodiazepines by a Dr. Aston who has had many years of benzo withdrawl experience. She is the one who suggests that one needs to get on valium and this is of the highest priority.Whatever you do don't stop cold turkey as benzo withdrawls can be the worst even fatal with siezures. So read up on the ashton manual and go from there.Good luck and make sure you stand behind as you have,he's going to really need you.......Dave
