Default Xanax - Short Term Use - Should I worry about withdrawal?

I was recently prescribed Xanax (.25mg) for short-term use to get through a rough period. I've taken approximately 6 to 7 tablets over the last two weeks (one .25mg at bedtime). I used a .25mg every 2 to 4 nights when I was very anxious. I took a .25mg two nights in a row during the worst week.

I'm hoping I will not need to take them in the future, but my doctor said I could take one occasionally as needed, especially at bedtime if I am unable to sleep. Do I have to worry about any withdrawal symptoms? I can't find any information on tapering for short-term, intermittent use.

I took one last night so is there anything to worry about if I don't take one again? I just read so much online about the danger of Benzo withdrawal it is making me more anxious than I need to be - some withdrawal symtpoms sound dangerous.

No need to worry about withdrawl for short term use. I took xanax as needed on a similar schedual for several years without any problems. It is only long term and higher doses that you need to worry about. What you have read concerns doses 4mg's or more daily long term...You are safe..Peace...Erin

Very good to know - sometimes I think when you search for things online the most scary stuff always pops up and that's what I was reading (Benzo WD can kill you, etc). I feel much better now!
