Question Xanax changed today at doctors visit

I have been taking 2 mg xanax (3) times a day....now I am told to take this prescription which is to take the 0.25 mg xanax (2) times daily?
Isn't this a HUGE cutback? If so,how many 0.25 mg's would equal to (1) 2 mg xanax,if it came to that?

Taking 6mg per day is ENTIRELY too much. That is addiction city I promise you, I've been there. Not judging you as I was taking 20mg per day plus 8mg of klonopin for 25 years. But 6mg is three xanax bars a day. That's bad news.

Sounds like the dr is just trying to get you off them. I agree with tapering down but I don't agree with that big of a taper if you've done this for a year or more. Check out www.benzo.org.uk ... look at the Ashton Manual there for benzo detox.

Has your dr given you any anti-seizure medication like depakote or dilantin? You should be on it coming off xanax like you're doing or you could be at risk of a seizure. If the dr disagrees I would run from him/her as FAST as I could as they are wrong. Continue to post. Good luck and God bless.

It is a huge cut back. It would take twelve 0.25mg to equal what you were taking before.

I would call your doc and find out if an error was made.

He must of made a mistake, is a complete idiot doctor or thinks your diverting your pills.

If he didn't give you a reason for the sudden drop ask him. If he wants you off off them ask for a much slower taper. That big of a drop is making you at risk for seizures and I KNOW your getting muscle spasms if your taking his new script as prescribes.

Get back to him, ask to be places on 3 mg a day instead of 6 if he wont budge at 4.5mg (3 1mg pills a day and 3 .5mg pills a day)
