Unhappy withdrawal symptoms?

My doctor has just dropped me from Percocets, that I have been on for quite a while, down to Tramadol. No easing off of it or anything. Just cold turkey. Now, I have not been misusing the pills, taking more than I should. But I still wonder if it will cause any waithdrawal symptoms or not.My dosage has been 10mg/650mg three times a day. If any one out there could tell me anything about this I sure would appreciate it. I took my last one around 4am this morning. On top of this, Tramadol is like candy to me, so I have the extreme pain to look forward to.

Tell your Dr to jump off a cliff because he is and idiot. I cant use the adjectives I want to describe him on this forum. I feel this way because I've had similar experiences.
YES, you will go thru withdrawal and pain. Tramadol(Ultram) is useless for most people with chronic pain, especially when perc's are needed to control the pain. I would call your Dr immediately and demand to be tapered off of it, and call other Dr's for a new one. If you have insurance and your current Dr wont taper you off, then find one that Rx's subutex/suboxone. Those Dr's can usually fit you in immediately.
Plus, your Dr was giving you a bad Rx. 3 perc's a day isnt enough. They only last 4hrs and then what happens when you must take 1-2 more a day. I assume you had to do this so he thought you were abusing them. I feel for you and Good Luck.

Thanks so much for your response. You see, what happened is that my primary care dr. wouldn't write me anything stronger than darvocet. So, he had the other dr. that was in the office with him write the "good"stuff". Well, apparently just a couple of weeks ago, he got into trouble for writing too many narcotics and lost his liscence! When it was time for me to get a refill on my percocets, I told my regular doctor that I knew he wouldn't write them, but I did need something. He knows how bad my pain is. Heck, I'm in there every week for shots so he sees how bad I am. He said, well, I can write you darvocets, no, I think I'll just drop you on down to tramadol. You've got too much of this other in your system making you think you need them! I ONLY TOOK 3 A DAY!!!! Now, things went from bad to worse. He decided last week to stop taking my insurance. He didn't give anybody any notice. I live in a small town where there's just not alot of options. I've been trying desperately to find a new pcp and have had no luck. I don't know what to do. Pain meds aren't the only thing I'm on. What's gonna happen when I run out of the other stuff? I'm sorry, didn't mean to get all cranked up and dump on ya. Anyway, thanks again, and good luck with whatever situation you are in as well.

Some doctors just won't prescribe opiates. What they don't realize is studies have been done which have found that Tramadol / propoxyphene (Darvocet) are no more effective than a couple of aspirin, but can be just as addictive as oxycodone (Percocet) in some patients. Also, tramadol can decrease the seizure threshold...

If you can, get the tramadol/ultram because it will help withdrawals from percs, but you will need to take more than the daily dosage. ALSO, get ultram, not ultracet(has tylenol). And try to get extra because you will run out early due to taking extra to get thru w/d's. I know firsthand that ultram will help at the least if not eliminate w/d's from percs but that required taking 8-10/day for 4 days and then 5-6 for another 4 days. Oh, you will get sick if stopping ultram suddenly; I did after only 20 days.
That should help with withdrawals but not your chronic pain, sorry.

Unhappy Withdrawal from Percocet 10/325

I have been on 4 1/2 percs a day for over 6 months due to an injury for a car accident. I'll be out of pills in a day or two and don't want anymore of them. I want off because I have an underlying lung illness (cystic fibrosis). I can't go to the doctor or a detox because there will be a record of it and when it comes time for a transplant (lung), this will be held against me. I am afraid of the w/d symptoms. I read on one website that the w/d symptoms alone will kill you. Of course they were plugging their detox program.

I just can't have this reported because I will pay a very high price if I do. What am I going to look forward to? Will the w/d symptoms kill me? I only took 4 1/2 pills a day, not 10 or 20 like I've read in other posts. I took a xanax to help me tonight but I don't want to take those because those do affect my breathing and I do not like them at all!

HELPPPP! Email me at riceisstupid@hotmail.com if you're a medical professional or someone in the detox biz.
