Default when pain meds arent working?

hi, can anyone give me any advice on what you can do when your pain meds just dont seem to be working anymore. ive been dealing with horrible low back, and leg pain for two years.i dont know if maybe its a tollerance issue or what.what else can you take or do along with your pain meds to keep your tollence down, and alleviate the pain? i have soma, but havent been taking it because it makes me feel so tirerd and hungover. i do take a couple alieve at times, but that dont help too much either.im already taking four pain meds a day, and i feel thats enough, i dont want any more strong meds, i need to be clear headed for my children, but this pain is really wearing me down, everyday, its the same thing. i take two to three soaking baths everyday, just to take the edge off.i also wear microwavable heating belts around, morning, noon.and night.i try to lay off the bengay rubs, my back is very burned.does anyone have any advice? does something like ultram work good to take in between my regular dosing? any advice please?

For chronic pain you need to be on a sustained release opiate like ms contin (morphine) or oxycontin (oxycodone).Using nsaids are a waste of time at this point an all your doing is rotting out your stomach by taking them all the time.Short acting opiates like tylenol#3 or percocet are useless as you get tolerent to them to quickly and obviously you have chronic pain (chronic pain is listed as persitent pain lasting more than 6 months).Don't worry about being stone that likely wont and shouldn't happen when the drugs are taken properly for real pain which you have.So get to the doc and get some relief.you don't have to stand for this pain any longer......Dave

Dave's right, since you're opiate dependant and increase will almost likely increase your mental acuity, too much may make you drowsy, but that is easily adjusted. Chronic pain will dull your senses too and make you less productive.
Maybe you should ask to try a different muscle relaxer, Flexeril is very good, Soma is one of the best, but it's well known for its seditive effects, it's best taken at night.
