Default Vicodin... information about it please

Hey all.

I just went to the E.R tonite cause i have this huge swelling on my leg and i cant even walk, they said it may of been a spider bite but its really bad. they said if i were to come any later.... then i could of been in a much of a more serious sitiution, even though i dont know if this is gonna heal anytime soon or get worse... im just hoping it does. but they perscribe to me a pain killer i believe called "vicodin". im just wondering if any of you forum users has ever used it before and if it works good. im gonna be put on 500mg . and is it addicting or anything? cause i dont want to get addicted to it or anything i just want it for the pain.

thanks!

Don't worry about addiction just look after your leg and the pain. This what you would call a acute pain attack. The doctors won't order you a whole bunch of vicodin.By the way it's 5mgs of hydrocodone and 500mgs of tylenol....Good luck and I hope your leg gets better quickly.....Dave

Question A question about vicodin

Hello.

I recently got down with a very bad flue. I have had a high fever for the last 4 days. Although I went to the doctor and he prescribed me an antibiotic I do not seem to get better. I also have a very strong cough attacks and to top it all I just got my period, which is usually very painful. Yesterday I took Ibuprofen 600 for the fever, Zyrtec for the runny nose and Ponstel for my period as well as antibiotic. I am not too happy about taking so many different medications. Since I haven't been sick in over 7 years I really don't know much about reducing the fever and taking medication. Today I found couple of Vicodin pills that were prescribed to me by the doctor for a bladder infection, I had long time ago. I took it and it seems to have taken care of all the symptoms: period pain, fever, cough and overall body aches. It made me feel much better. Can someone please let me know if i am doing the right thing by taking it for my current conditions?

Thank you.
Irina

Normally vivoden wouldn't be prescribed for the conditions you are describing but since you only have a few your not going to endanger yourself.Just make sure you understand that you are taking a opiate and long term use can lead to abuse and addiction but I really don't think this is the case here.Get your relief and go from there.Hope you feel better soon......Dave

PLEASE GO BACK TO THE ER OR YOUR PRIVATE PHYSICIAN AND HAVE THEM TEST YOU FOR MRSA(METHYCILLIN RESISTANT STAPH AUREUS) - IT IS OFTEN MISDIAGNOSED AS A SPIDER BITE, THIS I KNOW BECAUSE MY HUSBAND AND MYSELF WERE INFECTED W/ THIS STAPH. MY HUSBAND WAS HOSPITALIZED FOR 2 WEEKS, HAD SURGERY TO REMOVE THE INFECTED AREAS. I WAS HOSPITALIZED FOR 10 DAYS IN ISOLATION BECAUSE THIS IS A VERY CONTAGIOUS STAPH. WE BOTH HAD TO HAVE IV ANTIBIOTICS, TO THIS DAY (3YRS LATER) I CONTINUE TO TAKE DAILY ANTIBIOTICS.

Hello... I have a question.
I have some rather old Vicoprofen that was prescribed to me 7 years ago when I had teeth pulled. I don't generally take painkillers, but I'm once again experiencing a dental problem that I probably won't be able to get fixed anytime soon, and the pain is acute, to say the least. Is it safe to take the old Vicoprofin? Will it still have any effect? Is there an over-the-counter remedy that might work for this sort of pain? I haven't even taken so much as an asprin in years... I don't know much about these things.

Default Question about Vicodin

I have a question about Vicodin. Last week I had an accident and my doctor put me on Vicodin. It worked very well and today is my first day off of it completely.

My question is this: I have an autoimmune disease and normally I suffer terrible allergies at this time of year, even though I am perhaps more allergic to myself than anything else. Yet I still suffer during allergy season. However when I was taking Vicodin I didn't have any allergy problems at all. Now that I'm off the medication my allergies are terrible. I wonder why? And I wonder if this could be a result of going off of the medication without weening down first?

PS. I'm nto feeling any withdrawal symptoms either.

Thanks in advance for your help.

well, I'm not sure on the medical terms, but there is something in the vicoden that can help out with some allergin symptoms...coughing is hugely reduced by vicoden (hydrocodone). I dont think weening off after only a few weeks is needed. Now if you have been taking these for longer than just a few weeks then that is a different story. I would like to warn you, although the may make you feel better now...continued use does lead to dependance. Thanks and i hope it helps

Thanks for the reply, Dave. Things have improved a bit... managed to avoid using the vicodin, which I think is a good thing. Ibuprofen works well for dental pain, in case anyone's wondering... it can also aid with any fever that might accompany the pain.
