I have been using Fentanyl patch 50 mcg since 2004 for lumbar arachnoiditis. I have been having shortness of breath for about one year now. I was sent to see a lung specialist and was told I have emphysema one month ago. I had a chest xray and was hospitalized about 2 years ago and there was no sign of emphysema or any other lung disorder. I am very confused about all of this. The shortness of breath is getting worse daily.

I see under "interactions" that if you have a lung disorder not to use Fentanyl. Is it possible that I had a previous lung problem and the Fentanyl made it worse? I would like to use another medication instead of Fentanyl for my severe lumbar pain and leg pain. What other medication can be used to help me as the Fentanyl has helped me?
