Ultracet is a combination of two anelgesics, Tylenol and Tramadol. Tramadol is an odd drug, and even it's manufacturers aren't exactly sure how it works. It is often reffered to as a pseudo-opiate anelgesic, because it activates some opiate receptors, but not as many as hydrocodone or other true opiates. It also has some mild seretonin reuptake inhibition qualities, and is sometimes perscribed for pain with associated depression. mixing Tramado w/ vicodin would likely result in increased sedation, but Tramadol is considered much less effective and euphoric than hydro, so taking one of each may feel a bit stronger than a vicodin alone. Some people report more pain relief and euphoria w/ Tramadol than hydro, so personal preference and chemestry can play a role in that as well. be careful, however, in taking both because both pills contain tylenol, and taking a lot of each could do serious damage to your liver while still staying within a comfortable level of opiates. Also, if you are taking SSRI's or other antidepressants, you way want to avoid Tramadol, since long-term use of both could lead to dangerously high levels of serotonin in the brain. more info on Tramadol is availiable here on drugs.com, or google Tramadol
