Hi. I'm new to the group and am hoping that SOMEONE out there in this vast community can please help. I'm making a huge switch and freaking out.
I must admit in advance I am hoping for more 'good news' information than 'horror stories.'
I have been a patient of chronic pain for over a decade and been helped considerably by
oxycontin. It literally gave me a life! However, due to insurance reasons I am having to switch to
Methadone. (Why are insurance companies non-accountable for their upfront promises to your health; I digress.)
I am starting on a fairly low dose of Methadone 3x daily with Roxicodone for breaththrough pain. We will titrate in a week as needed.
Q: BESIDES getting the 'pain' levels correct, will I go through horrific withdrawal symptoms in making the switch, or should the methadone and roxy help to quell those horrific symptoms. I am SCARED out of my mind!!
(At the same time - in going from a high dose of oxy to fairly low of methadone, I won't get too 'high' will I? Def don't want that either. Yikes.)
I am hoping to hear from someone that was able to make the switch somewhat successfully and perhaps is doing well... or.. anyone that KNOWS someone that made the switch or just any tips to make the switch better. Again.....so scared having a complete panic attack.
So grateful......
Thank you!!!
