My friend is taking cymbalta and geodon(sp?) and she just got a new rx for tramadol. She fractured a rib after falling down the stairs. The dr. didn't want to give her vicodin which is what she has taken in the past, but he gave her tramadol. I looked up the interactions and it says to avoid taking these drugs together. Does that mean not to take at the same time or does that mean avoid taking tramadol at all if you are on any SSRIs? I'm wondering for me too, because I take cymbalta as well, and I will be going to a pain specialist in a few weeks for chronic pain, fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis. Thanks.

I would say best not taken at all, just to be safe. She should talk to her pharmacist and doctor about possible interactions.

SSRI's and tramadol together can cause a life threatning disorder called "Serotonin Syndrome" I would tell her to call her Dr at once to get the medicine switched to something else. Hope this helps...krissy
