Default Thiazides & loop diuretics given to diabetics

First i would like to ask: Are there any diabetics here that are taking blood pressure meds. If so, what are you taking that yield good results.

I am diabetic for 12 yrs with hbp. Five yrs ago, a nurse practioner gave me a script for hctz and did not tell me it could make my glucos levels and cholesterol rise. Now im battling high cholesterol and high glucose levels. My glucose rose from 5.6 to 7.5. It should be under 7.0. My cholesterol went from 130 to 337. I have lowered my cholesterol with diet(cant take statins or zetia).

My questions are, what meds are most diabetics take and does it raise glucose? My endo, cardio and gp insist i take a diuretic, but i don't want to for the reasons mentioned.

Any suggestions?
