i'm taking tegretol for trigeminal neuralgia, and i've just recently realized that i can't taste or smell. it's the strangest thing to me. i couldn't find anything about losing your taste on the list of side effects that came with the prescription. i'm just wondering if this is normal or not. any comments or info would be appreciated.

I am not finding such side effects listed, however, it does say it can cause swelling of the tongue, and other mucous membranes, I would recommend speaking to your doc, to rule out other factors or problems which may be causing this.

i'm 99% sure it's the tegretol causing my taste loss. i'm not an expert or anything, but it's just that i started taking medication that does something with the nerves in my face and now i can't taste anything. it just doesn't seem like a coincidence.
