Default Tazorac and Cleocin for acne

My 15 yr. old son had moderate acne. He used Pro-Activ for several months. We wanted to get his skin clearer. The Dr. Prescribed Tazorac cream 0.1% and minocycline. After 2 months it was looking worse, Dr. prescribed Clindamycin Phosphate Pledgets 1% along with the others. It's been about 2 weeks since the Clindamycin. Sometimes it looks a little better, then it looks worse. How long should he use these medications before accepting they failed? Dr says alot of times its 2 months before there any results.
My son is so embarrassed and discouraged. I would appreciate any advice in regards to this frustrating and humuliating situation.
