Default Switching Pain Killer Advice

I take 40mg of hydrocodone/ibprofen daily for chronic jaw pain. 20mg afternoon, 20mg at night. 6 hours apart. The pain relief lasts about 6 hours.

Are there any other medications on the market that last longer than 6 hours and aren't really strong like oxycotin?

Or medications that are designed for long term use and aren't as harsh on your organs as hydrocodone?

Sounds like a root canal or wisdom tooth job gone bad am I right? Tramadol wouldn't be a bad option. But if your pain is coming from inflammation like im guessing then your going to want to stick with ibprofen and another pain med or something with ibprofen in it. Tramadol lasts about 8 or so hours versus hydrocodones 4-6 hour half life. Oxycodone ER wouldnt be a bad option since it's 24 hour relief. As long as you dont chew it or crush it, oxycontin isn't too bad as far is side-effects or a "high" is concerned. But again if your pain is from inflammation you might have to keep the ibprofen even though its hard on your liver. Try taking something without anything else in it (tramadol 50mg, oxycodone 5-15mg) and see what kind of relief you get.

Also if you do stick with a med with something else in it, you should consider asking your doctor to put you on vicoprofen since the vicodin already has tylenol in it and you dont really need that if your taking ibprofen.

Hope that helps. Good luck.

MS Contin would fall in between hydro and OC and it's a CR.
