Default switching from methadone to oxycotin

I've been on methadone 10 mg 4 times a day and oxycodone 15 mg 4 times a day for the last 3 months for back pain. My question is this, would i go through withdrawl from the methadone if I switched to oxycotin ? Any info would be helpful
thank you

hi.. ive been on methadone for awhile its a wonderful drug.for chonric pain.switching to oxycontin is going to be a big change. oxycontin will give you a 'high' feeling you may not like.you should not go through withdrawls switching to a stronger drug.if you stop taking methadone all together and not take anything else yes you will go through very bad withdrawls.trust me. i also have back problems and have been on both drugs.i honestly like the methadone better.if you take one to many oxycontin you wont be able to fuction.you'll be too messed up to do anything.and the withdrawls from oxycontin are much worse and so is the addiction to it.hope this helps you out.

thanx Lisa, I have been on oxycotin before also but like you said, they were very addictive and I ran out way before the next script could be filled, so my Dr. put me on methadone and oxycodone. The only reasons I would try to switch back to the oxycotin is that it works better on my back pain and I heard methadone can take a month or more to withdrawl from. It's amazing how my back pain has effected my life. Never would I think that I would be using methadone and become addicted to opiates, Thanx for listening

no problem on the listening. like you i also have 3 disc messed up along with a few other problems with my lower back.yes methadone has a very long withdrawl time.i also never thought how much my back pain would rule my life.i also never thought i'd be a methadone user.but its really turned my life around.question?if you were running out of the oc's before time to refill, why go back to that?maybe try asking the doc to up your methadone.taking methadone any other narcotic like the perc's ain't going to work, cause they are so much weaker.maybe because you were taking more oc's than prescibed.yes taking more they will help more with the pain.if i were you i would'nt switch back, unless absoultly needed.hope this'll help.

Oxycontin seems to be the drug of choice for most pain specialists for chronic pain. Methadone is a cheaper, less effective pain med / narcotic...ironic they use it to get folks of heroine. eh/

Oxycontin will not give you regular highs unless you are hypersensitive. It is highly addictive, and in high demand on streets. I would not want it to be accessed by children, teens, it can be snorted/injected and more addictive than heroine and nicotene. It therefore should be locked if you keep it in public domains w/i your home.

Hope you are well soon. You may want to ask your dr. about liquid morphine which can be titrated more easily depending upon your symptoms. If you take oxy it is in effect in time release for at least 12 hrs i believe. Hope this helps. Kind regards Paul
