Default switching antipressants

I have been on Lexapro for about six months. Because of the vivid dreams that I was having, I switched to Effexor one week ago. I skipped one day then began taking 37.5 mg. of Effexor. Last night, I was extremely restless and now I have a headache. Should I be concerned?

The headache and restlessness may be due to the Effexor. Changing to Effexor XR (the extended-release version of Effexor) may help.

It is unlikely (although possible) the symptoms are related to the cessation of Lexapro as the Effexor was commenced soon after. The condition associated with the withdrawal of certain antidepressants is called SSRI Discontinuation Syndrome and symptoms include headache, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, chills, dizziness, fatigue, insomnia and agitation.
There is a lot of information on this subject available on the internet, including the experiences of others in similar situations.

If you are still experiencing the symptoms, please see your doctor. He or she will be able to determine the exact cause of the problem and give the appropriate advice and treatment.
