Default Super fast acting meds, why?

I am currently on Klonopin (as prescribed by my doctor). When I take the pills, I notice that I feel almost an IMMEDIATE effect followed by a lag then the "real" effect. I'm wondering, is this because when you put the pill in your mouth some of it gets absorbed and goes almost right to the brain? When I was on Percocet after surgery 2 years ago I noticed the same thing. I was like a 2 minute "false high" then a lag, then the real thing. I've always found this very interesting.
