Default Suboxone and ER treatment

Hello!!

I am new here and want to first say hello to everyone. I have a question about Suboxone. My question is about emergency care. Last week I had an attack (the dr's still aren't sure what is going on) and went to the emergency room needing pain meds administered which they did, but because I am taking Suboxone it blocked the effects and it did not work at all for the pain. What are pt's supposed to do in situations like that? It took over a week for the Suboxone to wear off enough for me to feel the effects of the pain medicine kicking in enough to dull the pain.

Anyone on Suboxone ever run into this situation?

Thanks in advance!!

Well first of all in a hospital situation you,or someone who knows that you're on suboxone is supposed to tell the nurses,Dr.s etc...That you're taking suboxone so that they know not to give you any opiates...They can give you other meds for the pain..Then I would imagine you should talk to your suboxone Dr. about the matter and see what he/she thinks is best...If you were given opiates at the hospital b/c you didnt tell them that you were on suboxone then that could/should put you into automatic w/d(presipiated(sp?) w/d)...I've never been in that situation(yet knock on wood),but thats what I've been told to do.

Default Thanks, Dave

I had to be weaned off the Suboxone so I could be treated with narcotic pain meds. They finally found out what the heck was wrong with me!! Three years after having my gallbladder out they found gallstones in my bile duct!! So for three years I have been having these attacts off and on sending me in to a pancreatic attack. Naturally with my history docs think I am using or drinking....nope!! Praise God I am better now and still clean and sober. Although it was a long, painful road to get there...just as it was getting clean! All well worth it.

Thanks for your advice.

Emergency analgesia is the big down side to Buprenorphine, there really isn't much they can give you except for NSAIDS, about the best you can hope for is Toradol.
