Has anyone here just stopped this drug, cold turkey?
I received a tentative diagnosis of RSD on 9/16 - I was prescribed 900mg
Neurontin (3 x 3) since that time. I was also prescrbied 60m of pred a day (3x3) and percocettes for pain (up to 8 a day - later kicked up to xtra strength vicodine).
Since this past Thursday I have begun to experience some dramatic improvement in the RSD symptoms and as of today, have no bone pain, no skin sensitivity - these were the only symptoms of RSD I had, beyond minor questionable bone scan results.
Also since Thursday, I've had this weird numbness in both legs, up my left side, into my face, my toungue, etc.
So - yesterday I talked to my ortho's office (the neurontin dr). He said that the numbness is likely from the neurontin. That it may be that the RSD is kicking out as fast as it kicked in (they think that it kicked off due to a minor tissue injury on a piece of dirty metal) and that the drug is now not needed for the RSD. So, he said step it down. Today I took 200m (1 x 1) and was going to take another at bedtime, but I feel so ************ from the dosage I have already taken I'm thinking I won't. He didn't seem to think it was a big deal either way - he said I could titre it any way I was comfortable. I would feel more comfortable if I heard from someone else who had actually done it!
As for the
prednisone, I hate the way this makes me feel now. And of course, I can't get the dr who prescribed it to call me back. He told me when he prescribed it I could adjust it - but again, I'd like a real persons feedback. Everything I've read on the web says that you can stop it abruptly if you've taken a small dosage (60m per day or less) for less than 3 months. I've been on it at 60m day for 19 days. I'm thinking that tomorrow I just won't take it. Anyone have any personal experience with this?
Thanks ....
Nikki
