Default Sodium Citrate

My three year old daughter has been diagnosed with Renal Tubular Acidosis, and prescribed Sodium Citrate. She is taking 2 teaspoons 3 times a day. . .while researching this medicine, I have not been able to find out what the long term effects of this medicine, doesn't it have any effect on her hair/skin (her skin is extremely dry and hair is brittle). Could this be a lesser known side effect of this med? Otherwise, she is healthly, articulate, and light years ahead in development. . .She is 3 years old, and only weighs 21 lbs.

Help!
