My doctor's receptionist has told me the Ambien is a benzo. Before I made the call I knew it wasn't. Anyway I called my friend who is a pharmasist and he concurred that while it may be addicting, IT IS NOT A BENZO. Can anyone give me advise on a sleeping pill that works? I have tried every over-the-counter sleeping pill and none worked. I tried trazadone, risperdal, lunesta and sonata. NONE work. Ambein did work, but my doctor won't prescribe it to me. Please someone tell me something that works, if I don't sleep soon I am fearing I might go off the wall. Thanks.

What is the cause of your sleep problems? You mentioned some of the 'big guns' in sleeping pills aside from Ambien but they do not help. What causes your sleep disturbances? How long have they been going on? What other medications are you on? Etc
Flesh out your circumstances more please right now you have not given a lot of information to work with.

I've had some family and friends prescribed ambien and although it works, I've seen some terrible side effects. Maybe a benzo will work, I've never heard it prescribed for sleep disorders, but hell it's a tranquilizer so who knows. I know if when I take my painkillers (esp. oxycodone) before bed I never wake up at night and I can barely get out of bed in the morning and I've had friends say the same thing. I really don't know what to tell you since you've tried most prescriptions out there.

I might be spelling this wrong but Amytriptoline worked for me. It was the only thing that worked!!!!

okay, I think I found the correct spelling....Amitryptiline. I was just on another thread and someone else was saying it worked great for sleep!!
