Dave87666....I talked to my dr. today and he perscribed Wellbutrin XL. Do you know much about this anti-depressant and the side effects? He said it's ok to take with the Xanax....and should help me while I taper off.

He perscribed the Ativan and Valium for me to take one at bedtime (perscribed them at different times said to see which worked better for me). I've had this dr. for about 10 years and he knows I have never liked to take pills because I have only one kidney (donated the other) so I think he was comfortable perscribing to me and felt I needed them.

As I said before I was on anti-depressants for about 13 years (Prozac, Lexapro,Zoloft etc and stopped taking them on my own 2 1/2 years ago and that's when I started having panic and anxiety attacks....along with a lot of other really terrible things going on in my life @ that time .) It was probably withdrawals from the anti-depressants & not panic attacks???? I honestly believe now that I'm not having panic attacks....I'm just having withdrawals from the Xanax..I've been keeping a log and it seems as though the Xanax is lasting 2 hours so I've been cutting a 0.5 in half and taking it every 2 hrs trying to stretch it to 3 hrs. I am just concerned about the side side effects of Wellbutrin XL and Xanax.

I just want to feel alive again....you know...to wake up in the morning and have energy to do normal...daily things. To want to watch my 15 yr.old twin daughters play sports...to maybe take them to the movies or shopping. I have absolutely no motivation or desire to do anything. I'm 37 & Sicilian & there was a time when I wanted to have sex every day....& now I don't care. There's nothing that excites me anymore and that's a scary feeling when you've become numb.

Haha well yes im in Jersey so there is a time differnce...Back to your questions I was on Wellbutrin XL for approx. 6-8 months and it did NOTHING for me,but at the same time I was using heroin so that screwed with things...I am clean now,and on prozac,and it works much better for me...Give the Wellbutrin a try it really may help you...Panic attacts could also very well be from coming off of your antidepresants...
Xanax,valium,ativan,klonopin etc...are all benzos just with different strengths,relase times,and amount of durration they work...Honestly if I were you I'd use the ativan(it sould'nt make you feel numb,and like BLAH) the valium I'd only use for sleep once in a while and thats it(even at all)...You're body builds a tolerance to valium very quickly and then you just have to keep taking more,and more so IMO a VERY bad benzo for long term use,and also for daytime use...As far as sex drive goes well Hmmm no comment!

I have used Wellbutrin before breifly and now again for 3 months and have had to come off xanax. If the Dr is telling you that Wellbutrin will help the side effects of withdrawing from xanax, he is dead wrong. I hope to God he isnt doing that because withdrawal from benzo's(ie xanax) can cause seizures. Guess what bad side effect Wellbutrin has...it can cause seizures which isnt a rare side effect. My brother had to stop Wellbutrin because of it. I had bad muscle spasms when weaning off xanax and a relative has had 2 seizures from trying to wean himself off xanax. The two combined is a very bad thing.

Hey Dave87666, didnt the Wellbutrin prevent you from getting high from heroin? I ask because it has completely blocked any warm and fuzzy feeling I get once in a while when I must double-dose my vicodin. I researched this and it appears that wellbutrin blocks dopamine reuptake, which is how most drugs produce euphoria. I really think Dr's should look into this more to combine with oxy and other meds to prevent the euphoria that can turn normal people into addicts.

First I completely agree there is NO reason a Dr. can detox you froma benzo without lower the dose and weening you off...No anti-depressant is going to do that..

Siesta-No it didnt block me from getting high,but that was also due to the fact that my daily heroin intake was 25-30 bag/day all mainlined...Nothing is going to block that much dope...Well maybe except for the naltrexone running through me from the suboxone..
