Question Question about Nitroglycerin IV

Any Pharmacist, Doc or anybody else for that matter that can answer a few questions for me please do.

I know that it is suggested that NTG IV should be mixed in a glass container and administered via tubing made of something other that PVC. From the studies I have read my understanding is that PVC will absorb the NTG out of the NS or D5 causing the dosage administered to not be as effective. Meaning the dosing would have to be increase.

Now the questions .....

In what time frame does this absorption occur? Minutes, hours, days?

Other than having to increase the dosage/rate, thereby increasing the amount of fluid that the patient is getting, is there any other detriment/potential detriment to the patient by using a 50cc or 250cc bag to mix the drug if it is not utilized any longer that 1-2 hrs?
