Default Prozac help

This is my first time to post here, but I need to know if anyone else can relate to my concern. I have been on 80 mg fluoxetine off and on for several years. I ran out of my prescription over the weekend, so I borrowed a few from my mother. I typically take 2 40mg fluoxetine per day. Of hers, just to get me through the weekend, I took 3 20 mg fluoxetine, so half the dose. Both Prozac, different manufacturers. Let me tell you, smaller dose, different manufacturer, what a difference!!!! I was up doing stuff giddy and energetic ALL WEEKEND LONG!!!! It was the same feeling as when I first got on Prozac years ago. I know the generic 40mg fluoxetine has not been out as long as the 20mg, but is this common amongst different manufacturers or does the 40mg need to be tweaked? I am even wondering if it was possibly a placebo. I cannot imagine what it is, but it is certainly not just a state of mind. I took her 20's for three days and felt like a new person! I literally only slept maybe three hours a night and still cannot stop!

As of recent I was considering switching SSRI's because I just did not feel the effect of the 80 mg, as high of a dose that is. Practically as if I was not medicated anymore, but now I am just considering switching manufacturers and possibly a lower dose.

There is some evidence that all generics aren't the same. Placebo effects do factor in sometimes, but if you can get by on less drugs great, talk this over with your doc, ask for that specific mnf. be specified on your Rx.

Thank you so much for your reply. I have always heard that but never really believed it. ALways just thought depressed people would find anything to gripe about, but how wrong I was. I am definitely a believer now. Thank you.

When someone like you takes one brand for a very long time, then tries another and feels a difference, it can't all be in the head.

Hi. I went from 20 mg to 40 mg of fluoxetine but never achieved the same effect as 20 mg of the name-brand Prozac. My doctor now switched me back to the name brand, and I am starting to feel better already. She did tell me that she has had lots of patients complain about the generic drug not working as well, so you might think about asking your physician to go back to name brand.
