    Default oxycontin to Fentynal

    Hi,

I am new to the forum, have been reading lots about oxycontin and fentynal.

I have DDD, OA, and bulging disks which cause me alot of pain in my lower back, hips, thighs, calves, shins, ankles and feet. I am presently on 40 mg ocycontin and 15-20 mg percocets daily sometimes more for really bad days. These are no longer working very well at looking after the pain. I am having muscle twitches where my entire limbs move while I am sleeping or resting my doc says it is because I need more pain medication.
He is suggesting stopping the pills I am on and going on the fentynal 25 mcg. He sent me to the Pharmacist for a weaning off schedule for the oxycontin/percs but the Pharmacist says that I shouldn't have withdrawels switching to the patch and dropping the pills.

I was wondering if someone else has switched from oxy to fentynal, and if there are any withdrawels? I been on oxy for over a year now.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Wilie
I was taking oxycontin 40mg and was switched to the fentynal patch.
I had no w/d but was not happy with the patch,so i had my doctor switch
me back to the oxy,but i had other issues with my pills.(liked them to much)
So i think you will do fine and not have any trouble.
    Good luck to you,Melinda

    Thanks melinda7.5,

For the fast reply, I was really worried about the w/d. I had to change health insurance providers and there was an error, so I ran out of pills had to go a day and a half without pills not very pleasant. Getting two different answers from the pros got me worried dont want to get caught in the middle without any pills.

    Thanks again

    willie

Normally I would also say that you would not have any w/d making this switch. Only thing that might make a difference is if the patch was not a high enough dose. Not sure 25mg will suffice but you will know shortly after you switch. Good luck.

The Pharmacist said I would probably need the 25mcg plus a 12.5mcg patch but she had to do the mathamatical calculations yet to confirm.

On the subject of w/d, My wife and I were talking last night and she asked me about my pains that I feel. The question was if I was feeling actual pain or was the meds causing the pain or should I say amplifying it because I need the meds for dependancy now also. When it gets time for my pills or I am late taking them I notice the pain starting in my lower back then in my legs getting worse and worse as time passes. So would the w/d increase my pain in the areas I am taking the pills for?

    Thanks

    Willie

w/d pain is one of the worst types of pain there is. Of course the w/d will make your pain worsen. That is why we suggest so often that people get clean first and then re-evaluate their REAL pain level at that time. When I got clean and stopped suffering w/d pain it was amazing how much less pain I was in without the pain meds. It was crazy. I didn't need anything like what I was taking. And I was taking 30 30mg roxies a day. And was in terrible pain all the time, even was in a wheelchair part of the time. I got so much better once I stopped so many pain pills. Hope it goes like that for you too. Stay in touch. Good luck and God bless.

NO!!! That is not what I am saying at all. What I am saying is that if you can get the drugs out of your system you would then be able to see what your real pain level was. The insanity of adding more and more medication needs to stop or at least be reduced at some point or you have lots of additional problems.

I just mentioned why you are feeling the extra pain ... not that you should continue to keep adding more medication. This causes dependency and usually eventually ends up becoming an addiction problem. Let us know if we can help you more with this. Good luck and God bless.

Sorry about that I could have wrote the question better.

I am at the point where they want me to try the Fentanyl patch for the pain, my wife and I are worried because the addictive nature of it. The oxycontin sounds much easier to w/d from and we are wondering if it is really necessary (Fentanyl) I see my new pm doc tomorrow so we have questions for him. but my wife and I both think you are right about weaning off the oxy re-evaluating my pain level and go from there.

I will let you know how I make out tomorrow.
Thank you helping me out, I appreciate it.

    Cheers

Glad to hear you are thinking that you need to taper down. That is smart. I will guarantee you that the patch will end up being the most difficult to taper down with of all.

Here is what I recommend. Oxycontins are time released. Percs are instant release. It is easier to detox using the percs than it is the oxycontins. You get them out of your system more quickly. If you want to taper down to nothing you should get off the oxycontin and do it with percs only. Let me know if you have any questions. We do this all the time here and can help you if you want us to. God bless.

I'm sorry if I am doing this wrong, but this is the first time I have posted. I have chronic pain from TMJ and migrain. i do not have insurance, so I ordered hydro on line. It has been a long time since I last did this, so I used a place with which I was unfamiliar, meds-easy.com I joined this board to spread the word, DO NOT USE THEM!!! iT TOOK 2 MONTHS TOI RECEIVE MY ORDER, WHICH WAS THEN DELIVERED TO A state that is about 1500 miles from my home. So, they said they would "re-send it from (their) American affiliate." What a stinkin scam!!! Oh, they sent me something alright, the con was so poorly done that I can see flecks of gold/tan pill that they left on the "whit" hydro. They stamped it w/ "Watson 375" which is NOT what I ordered, and I don't know what it is, but it aint no painkiller, that's for sure. I even showed it to a pharmacist, who just shook his head and said it looked "suspicious." How am I sure it's a con? I'm in my second miserable day of withdrawl. Do I have any recourse???? I am just furious at them and at myself for trusting that they would be repudable. I even wrote to the customer service people to let them know I was going to post on every drug board I could, and I gave them ample time and contact info to communicate with me...nothing.
Of course, the number I call says the "mailbox is full." Please...be smart, do NOT us this company!!

People post on this forum every single week looking for online pharmacies or some place where they can purchase RX pain meds, benzos, amphetamines, etc. It's gone on since the day I became a member here and before I am sure. When I reply with any sarcasm about these pharmacies I always make someone mad. They think I am being judgemental or whatever. This is a perfect example of why we should leave these places alone.

Online pharmacies are totally legal. Some of them serve a great purpose. Bottom line though is that any online pharmacy that is legit requires a current prescription, information on you and the dr, the same info that Walgreens or the Walmart pharmacy or any other pharmacy you go to in person requires. When you hook up with someone online promising to send medications that you are obviously purchasing illegally you deserve what you get. Not to sound harsh, but I don't believe that anyone is so naive to honestly believe you were doing this legally. You can't expect anyone to come to your rescue when you get ripped off doing something illegal.

Contacting the company with threats of telling others about them online is a waste of time. Do you think they really care? No one will remember your story, nor will anyone even think of it when they think they have found an illegal source that will ship them pills. Certainly it's a scam. And everyone gripes when they get ripped off, but those same people get insulted when someone like me bad mouths doing business with these scam pharmacies to begin with.

In your post you say at the end ... "Please ... be smart, do NOT use this company!!" I would simply add that you should be smart and go to the dr if you require prescription medications. We get what we pay for. It's actually less of a cost in the long run to do things the right way. God bless.
