    Default oxycontin????

My new doctor is giving me oxycontin 10mgs. Im used to taking 3 100 mg morphine and a couple percocets a day. The oxycontin 10 CR s twice a day dont eliminate all the pain as well as the morphine and the percs. Is it because the oxys are time released? Or is it because its only twice a day? In other words am I not getting enough medicine in the oxocodone? What is the equivalent of oxycontin to morphine? ANYONE? PLEASE HELP?

Oxycodone is 1.5-2 times stronger then morphine, mg for mg, and 10mg of morphine is equivalent to 4.5-6mg of oxycodone, so doing the math 100 mg of morphine is to about 50mg of one 10mg OC. Factoring in your percocet you were definitely getting more medication before. Graphed out, OC keeps a steady straight line from hours 1-8 then drops considerably from hours 8-12, I'm not sure about morphine, but you may get a bigger spike starting off with the line dropping off. I think morphine lasts roughly 4 hours (not the MS Contin which is controlled release), morphine via IV is much stronger.
It sounds like your doctor messed up, he/she should have started you off on 20mg pills, and that will only equal what you were taking in the past (not counting the percs), bumping up to 20mg OC will be slightly more since it's CR.
I'd be calling the DR asap, they usually have a problem writing a second script in the same month for the same thing, but maybe he'll give you something for breakthru pain meanwhile. Maybe meanwhile you can try taking a pill a couple hours earlier.
Were you taking morphine CR before? I'm not aware morphine comes in 100mg pills except in CR only 15&30mg tabs.

what do you mean by getting a bigger spike? How about waiting 4 hours and taking another one? That would be like taking 4 10 mg percs? Slowly entering the system? My body is still in pain after taking 1 oxycontin CR 10 mg. So if I take another one 4 hours later would that be too much?

By spike I mean a peak effectivness.

I'm not sure how morphine works on a titration/time graph, but most pain medication has a peak effectiveness over time.

One 10mg percocet equals one 10mg OC, but it only last 4 hours compared to the OC 8-12 hours.
You're not opiate naive, so no it won't be too much, but it doesn't make sense to do that, after 12 hours you won't have any medication in your system.
