Default Oxycodone Tolerance

I am prescribed Oxycodone (5mg) by my Doctor for chronic back pain after a surgery in 1990. I have noticed an increase in my tolerance over the last 2-3 months and my Doctor is reluctant to increase my dosage. Is there anything I can do to decrease my tolerance or increase it's effectiveness? Although I'm not an addict, I do have a dependence on this drug if that makes sense. Thanks, MCS

Ocxy in 5mg is a small amount for any one on it over a month. Does it say TID or4/6 hours Prn? If I was you I would ask your Dr to refere you to a Pain Specilist. If you want to try to get more bang for the buck you can take Tagament or Regilen at the same time as it will keep it in your blood longer and not break down as fast. There is also strong prove that drinking down your meds with Grafruit Juice well make the concentrate stronger. No way to get lower tolarance with out stopping ALL opids Darvocet, codien ---- Harion, Fytnal
I have used this on my Drs for years. Ask him or tell him that you "Must have somthing stronger like Demerol!" Chances R U will not get the demerol but he probly will up your dose of O.C. . The ussall dose for some one that has been on Oxcy for 3 or more months is 40 - 80 mg a day in 10 mg dose or 1 oxcyCotin 40 or 80. WARNING If you get to 80 mg a day or much more Ask for Methadone. All the good pain specialist are giving it, It was the VERY best I ever had that REALY KILLED PAIN with very little narcotic effect. My problem was when I changed from 10mg a day to 30mg a day I found out I was alleragic to it, """"" Figures """""...... Coming off Oxcy is bad news with out methadone. Good luck I hope U fell better soon.

Thank You for the Prompt Reply,
A monthly prescription between 115-120 5Mg. Tabs 4/6 Hr. PRN...This has been going on for about 3Years! Within the last 3 months I get no response from these things unless I average about 10-15 per day and of course this has necessitated going to "outside sources". Obviously this is addictive behavior. I dont like living with pain but unfortunately narcotic pain medication is the only thing that works on me and Methadone makes me sick! Perhaps a Pain Specialist may be in order but I fear being stereotyped as an abuser. Anyhow thanks for the suggestions.

Ask your doctor for sustained release oxycodone which is called oxycontin. If your dealing with chronic pain then using a fast acting narcotic like percocet is a waste of time. You need to be on a long acting narcotic like oxycontin and use the percocet (oxycodone) for break through pain......Dave
