Default Overdose Dosage

I have this unnrational fear of overdosing. Right now I take 20mg of hydrocodone morning and night for the past year.

Often times I want to take an additional 10mg when I take a 20mg dose because of the pain however I did this once and got a very bad panic attack thinking I was going to overdose.

This isn't something I feel comfrontable speaking with a Dr. about either.

Any been there done that help would be great.

Is it possible to die taking 30mg of hydrocodone or am I just being paranoid?

It'd be possible to die on 30 mg of hydrocodone if you hadn't been on 20 mg twice a day for the past year...as it is you've probably got a higher tolerance for it, so an extra 10mg shouldn't be dnagerous...if you don't mind me asking, why've you been on hydrocodone for such a long time anyway?

You're tolerent to the hydrocodone now so an extra 10 mgs is fine. Were you get into trouble with overdoses is when people start mixing their drugs like opiates (hydrocodone) and benzodiazepines (valium, xanax). So you should have no problem if you stay away from an other drugs that will slow your central nervous system down......Dave

I'm prescribed Xanax as well but I haven't taken it in awhile (1 month) and the other night needed it.

I hear all the time of people ODing off the opiate/benzo combo so I called both the pharmaceutist and poison control. Both said mixing the two was perfectly fine so I went ahead and took it and was fine.

How do these people OD from it though. Do they just take massive doses? I took 20mg hydro and 1mg xanax.

People are oding because they are abusing these drugs. You're absolutely right that opiates and benzo's can be saftely taken together as long as they aare prescribe by a doctor that is familiar with your medical history. You are probably referring to the methadone-benzo overdose death's recently in the news.Methadone is unlike any other opiate and has to be treated as such.It can be taken with benzo's but at low doses or with patients that are opiate and benzo tolerent. There are people out there that are prescribe morphine and a benzo and have taken them for years. They make a deadly mistake by taking someone elses methadone thinking that it's just another opiate. They take it and don't feel a buzz so they take a little more and still nothing happens. They take their usual benzo dose and go to bed only to have the methadone peak in their serum levels 6 hours after taking it and they go into respitory failure. If you read the articles most of these od's are happening when the people are aslepp a classic sign that they died of respitorty failure.Doctors are starting to realize how dangerous methadone can be when not prescribe to the right patients.Sad that it's happening but really it's usually the patients fault due to abuse......Dave
