Default Oprah Show

Oprah did a show today in regards to the epidemic of addiction to pain killers we've got going on here in the US. She featured a mother and son that were both addicted and sharing pills. Making a long story short, Oprah offered the resources at the end of the show for them both to get into a rehab and get clean. They both agreed and accepted, but the mother asked the director of the clinic about their methods...she wanted to know if they would be put on methadone. She stated that she did not want to go from one drug to another. Fair enough. The director responded by saying no, they did not use methadone and that they had "medicine" which they could prescribe that would help with the symptoms and then they would be weaned off gradually.
I am sure that the medicine they speak of is suboxone. Great drug if used properly, but I really wasn't happy how they did not go into detail about it on the show so that consumers are informed about the pitfalls if not used properly. I am going to write the Oprah show and see if I can't convince them that Suboxone is worth a whole show in and of itself.

Default Interesting

I would have like to seen that. And I would think the medicine would be suboxone, I don't know of anything else to help withdrawals, other than methadone. Hey, if you ever find out let us know, ha!

Donna ...... Almost every detox facility in the USA uses subs now days. It has become the gold standard for opiate detox treatment. I am sure that was the medication they used if it wasn't methadone.

Yes people need to be educated how to use subs properly to keep from having problems. Even the darn drs need to be educated instead of getting their information from a company drug salesperson. That "certification" that the sub drs get is a freakin joke. It's also ironic that those salespeople most all have a BS degree. LOL

What a joke, but it's not funny. It's really sad that the drs don't even get trained properly. No wonder so many people have such a difficult time. God bless.

I think that most drs would be leary of admitting they could learn anything from someone who wasn't medically degreed like themselves. Just what I would expect. Who knows though? God bless.
