Hi:
I've heard of
PAREGORIC before, but not Paregormic. Paregoric if I remember correctly used to have
opium in it, therefore, that was why it was used for diahreah. Many opiates can cause intense constipation if one does not eat a fiber filled diet, and many even still supplement with OTC stool softeners.
Paregoric used to be a household OTC item "back in the day", and then the good old DEA came along and regulated it!!

It has been used as a cough suppressent, an anti-diahreahal, and to "calm fretful children" back in the late 1800's early 1900's...isn't that hilarious!!

I bet it did calm some kiddos!! With opium/morphine in it!! WOW
I don't know how much supposed opium was in the Paregoric, but I can imagine that if the person had an intestinal bug, with cramping and diahreah, this is why it would have been prescribed.
With the bottle being that old, surley it's
WAY past it's expiration date, and could be dangerous to take, so I wouldn't worry about the equivalece to a pill form.
Good luck to you.
