Hi,

I just joined this forum and have a question about Xanax XR. My doctor recently prescribed this medication for me at the lowest dosage (0.5 MG). I just took my first pill this evening. I have a question, though. I only intend to take this medication as needed -- not every day. If I'm only taking 0.5 MG, which I believe is the lowest dosage, is it safe for me to take it once and a while and not every day? I've read that the medication can give you seizures if you stop taking it abruptly, as well as other side effects. I have friends who take Xanax XR and they've have told me not to worry about it since I'm taking such a low dosage. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

It's not so much that you're taking a low dosage, the seizure problem is for people who are dependant on it then abruptly quit.
Since you're new to Xanax, here's some advice, never take more then you're suppose to, because you'll always need more to do the job, Benzo's build tolerance faster then just about any drug. Do yourself a favor and don't get use to taking it every day, everybody has some anxiety, learn to live with it, it's normal. It's not a good drug to become dependant/addicted to. Lecture over.
