Default Need Info Re: Topamax

My psychiatrist has supplemented my 40mg Paxil with Topamax as a mood stabilizer. After searching the web, all I know about Topamax is that it's used to prevent migraines. How is it going to help my depression? I have been treated for chronic depression with antidepressants for the past 16 years. My doctors and I have worked my way through the popular and new ones. Paxil has been effective for 3 years. Recently I had felt a shift in my well being. This is when my psychiatrist added the Topamax. I also exhibit eating disorder behaviors. I have been abstinent from drugs and alcohol for 10 years through the help of a 12 Step Program. Any information to help me understand the use for the Topamax would be appreciated! Thank you.

I started Topamax 5 days ago. I am bipolar II. The first two days really sucked but things are much better now. Before I started I read a lot about it on the internet. Research results, other patients experiences (eg. http://www.askapatient.com/viewratin...5&name=TOPAMAX), etc. One of the best places is actually this site http://www.crazymeds.org/topamax.html - a lot of useful information.

I am pretty sure it will work for me. I was on Lamictal before but persuaded my doctor to let me try this after having read about it on the web - because I weigh too much and drink too much. Since I started this, I lost my interest in alcohol. Very nice.

Tried Zoloft twice - doesn't work for me.

I wish you good luck.

I've been on Topamax for 4 years for nerve pain. It has also helped me lose weight which I needed to do badly. This probably didn't help with your question but I figured I'd add some .02¢ worth anyway.
