Default Need Info On Morphine

Hi Everyone,

To make a very long story short, here's what I need to know. Basically I need to know what is the half life of Morphine?

I was on Suboxone. I was on Sub because I was taking too many Vicodin for pain. I had to go off the Sub because I needed surgery. I now have to go back on Sub. The dr I had is a clown and he's not helping me anymore. So I have to figure out how to switch back to Sub from about 300 mg a day of Morphine. Does anyone know the half life or where I might find people who do?

Thanks.

Hi Dave,

They are MS Contin. I agree that 16 mg of sub is a good place to start, but that wasn't what I wanted to know. What I want to know is do I need to reduce the dose of the Morphine before taking the sub, or more importantly, is probably how many hours do I need to put in between the last Morphine dose and the 1st sub dose? That's the big issue because I don't want the sub throwing me into instant wds, and I know there is a possibility of that. From what I know I have to wait until I am already into wds from the Morphine. So I'm thinking I have to wait some where between 12 and 24 hours, maybe even 36. I also have some Subutex and I was thinking maybe I should use them for the 1st day or 2 and then switch over to the Suboxone. I like Sub better than subx, but subx doesn't have naloxone in it so there should be less chance of going into wds. What do you think?

Here is a link that may be of some help and confirms you thoughts on starting out with Subutex first. I'd wait as long as possible (several day's) before starting to avoid WD especially if you have become depended on the morphine. Link: http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic3/suboxone_ids.htm
