I am assuming you are refering to Meprobamate.
Meprobomate (brand name Miltown) is a sedative similar in action to barbituates. It was perscribed breifly for anxiety, insomnia and as a muscle relaxant in the 70's as a potential alternative to barbituates and Quaaludes which had a high abuse potential. But Miltown soon began being abused (I.e. being diverted to the black market) and soon after, benzodiazapines rose in popularity and quickly supplanted Miltown as the "safe" alternative to barbs and ludes. Meprobamate is still legal to perscribe in the U.S. (it is schedule IV along with most benzos) but is not often used. It is also a major metabolite of Carisoprodol (Soma), and is believed to be responsable for much of soma's theraputic effects. So I guess you could say that the effects of Meprobomate would be similar to soma, but with a possibly faster onset since it does not need to be metabolized into anything before being absorbed.
