Exclamation need HELP w/ methadone W/D and suboxone

my bf has been taking methadone (10mg-10-12per day) for the past 8 months, prior to that he was taking wayyy too many norcos (around 15/day - 10/325) and has been trying to get totally clean for the past month or so.

He took his last dose of methadone 48 hrs ago (he took 7 pills that day) and was feeling alright, just sleeping a lot. He just took his first dose of suboxone (he took 4mg) then didnt feel anything so took another 4mg dose 2 hrs later, then w/d symptoms hit him like a ton of bricks within minutes. He is trying to sleep now, but has the cold sweats, goosebumps, dialated pupils and has been throwing up every 10-15 mins.

What can I do to help him???? Should he take more suboxone? what can i give him to alleviate some of these symptoms...and how long will this last? is this normal? will it get better or worse? ANY advice will be greatly appreciated! Thx

gina ... I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you've got a mess on your hands. First of all a methadone user should NEVER switch to suboxone while using 100-120mg of methadone per day. You're supposed to be at 30mg or less. More than that and you have to titrate down. I understood you to say that he was taking ten to twelve 10mg methadone each day. He took a little less a couple days but that doesn't get it.

Even if he was at the correct methadone dose he should have waited longer to start the induction. Methadone usually requires 72 hours before beginning the induction. Some person may say they did sooner is fine. I'm talking most people. Your boyfriend is now in precipitated w/d from starting the suboxone too soon. In addition his body is freaking out because he has jumped off way too high a dose of methadone.

He needs to stop the suboxone immediately in my opinion. How long ago exactly has it been since he has taken the 8mg of suboxone? I'm trying to determine how soon he should go back on the methadone. I'm hoping he can do that almost immediately and get some relief. Then he can do this the right way so he doesn't put himself in the ER. Let me know. God bless.

Default thank you robert

He really does not want to go back to the methadones...is there any other options? can he just not take any thing for the next day or so and then start suboxone, or does he have to go back to methadones to taper down more?

He took his last 4 mg suboxone dose about an hour ago...THANK YOU!!

Gina ... I am tryin to help you guys but you're asking me to tell you how to do the wrong thing the right way. I don't know how to do that.

I don't want to tell someone to do something that most likely isn't going to work. He needs to go back on methadone and taper down properly. I really can't help if he likes that suggestion or not. That is the right thing to tell you. Taking something for a couple days isn't doing what's in his best interest. I'm telling you the right thing I promise.

I know this isn't what you guys wanted to hear but I don't know what else to tell you. Good luck and God bless.

Gina ... I'm really glad you guys are listening. It's the best thing to do to help him. He was about to do something that would be a nightmare. Here is a link to the Thomas Recipe. It's the way we always suggest to do when doing a cold turkey detox from opiates. So this would help him until he gets to the dr or clinic or whatever. Keep us posted how he is doing. God bless.
