The patch you have is fentanyl.Fentanyl is a narcotic, a member of the same group of drugs to which opium and morphine belong. The following is a simplification of how these drugs affect the body:

The opiate drugs bind to different types of opiate receptors throughout the nervous system. Different types of opiates tend to bind to different types of receptors thus creating differences in effect between the different opiates. The “mu” receptor is responsible for the narcotic effects of euphoria, addiction, and respiratory depression. There are also “kappa” and “sigma” receptors with other effects.

Fentanyl binds only the mu receptor approximately 75 to 100 times stronger than morphine. It reaches its peak blood level in 3-6 hours It comes in 25,50,75 and 100 micrograms.I hope this helps......Dave

The duragesic patch(fentanyl) is way stronge rthan oxycontin, as above discussed, your 60mg x 2 daily dose of Oxycontin? sounds wierd, maybe you Are taking "oxyCODONE" 60 mg x2/day. I could be wrong, either way, sounds as if you would geta stonger duragesic patch. The absorb into you blood, usually you wear it on you arm,(similar to a smoker's quitting patch) I believe Fentanyl would provide more effeicient pain relief within 1-2 hours of your application. It does have a time release in the patch,so throughpout the day you will feel, a "wave" of medication sent into your blood. Hey I suggest you try it,if not looks as if you can go back to your regular 60 mg 2x daily. Sorry if dosen't benefit you at all, and mainly confuse you. G/L[8D][8)][^]

My Aunt tried this and it made her very sick to her stomach. Make sure you have nausea medication in case this happens. It is terrible to get pain relief and have experience extreme nausea. If the nausea is managed it can be a medication that helps alot.

good luck,
wbgt
