Default mixing opiates

Hi,
Does anyone know if there is any reason not to mix various opiates? One pharmacist said not to take oxycodone and hydrocodone but at the time I didn't ask why. What about demerol and hydrocodone? Any info would be appreciated. T

Doctors Rx these meds together all the time, their effects are accumulative, the pharmacist knows this, if he doesn't he should go back to school.

I can see a pharmacist worrying about a possible OD and telling a patient this.I can see oxycontin and hydrocodone because one is a sustained release and the other is a quick release.Demerol and hydrocodone would not be advisable as they are both quick release and the chance for over dose is greater.....Dave

I'm taking oxycodone (percs) and Hydrocodone. I guess they are both quick release? Maybe I'll just call the pharmacist. now that it's open again. Thanks! tgirl

Default reply to mixing opiates

there is no real reason not to mix opiates except for the fact some act differently. as for hydrocodone and oxycodone dont know why you would take both considering they are basically doing the same thing as they are both mixed with tylenol. now i could see you being on a fentanyl patch and taking one of them or morphine sulfate or drugs of the such, but why you would even want to take the both of them together or a doctor would prescribe both of them together is beyond me brad
