Has anyone heard of taking methotrexate for OSTEOarthritis? I know it's used for rheumatoid arthritis but a friend told me her doctor prescribes it to her for her osteoarthritis. She insists she does not have rheumatoid arthritis. She says it is extremely effective for pain relief. I myself have osteoarthritis, and take anti-inflammatory and opiod pain meds. I'm wondering how common it is to take methotrexate for osteoarthritis and has anyone else found it effective for that condition?

Some drs do use methotrexate for osteoarthritis at times. I've got RA and use it myself sometimes. I surely wouldn't use methotrexate for anything if I didn't have to. At times it makes me ill, nauseous, it's very unpleasant. I would try other meds first. God bless.
