Too much iron in anybody is very dangerous. When you have large amounts it actually starts to attack your organs causing severe damage and possible organ failure. It usually attacks the liver first and then moves on to others.

A disease runs in my husband's family where they do not process out the iron, their bodies store it instead and both his mother and grandmother died of liver failure caused by it. His aunt has dialysis once a month to actually make her anemic so she doesn't get too much iron in her blood. I am not sure of the spelling but it is called hemachromatosis or something similar.

Dear Mr. Orgill,
Iron is absorbed readily by persons who are deficient in iron.
Iron deficiency may be due to bleeding which may be evident or occult (unseen, except by a thorough search) or other conditions which prevent the body from absorbing iron (there are many).
If, on the other hand, you don't suffer from any of the abovementioned conditions and you consume beef, pork or other meat regularly in you diet, there is no need to fear suffering from iron deficiency. In fact, iron deficiency and the consequent iron deficiency anemia is not a common condition among non-bleeding men.

There is usually enough iron in the American diet to make taking an iron supplement unnecessary for men, even if you're a regular blood donor.

Hope this helps.

Best regards.
