I went to my doctor for yearly exam. I take lithium carbonate for depression. My doctor prescribed Flagyl and Floxin for a small cyst. How does Flagyl interact with Lithium?

Flagyl (metronidazole) when taken with lithium may increase the risk of lithium toxicity.

Lithium levels should be monitored more closely whenever metronidazole is added to or withdrawn from therapy, and the lithium dosage adjusted as necessary.

You should notify your doctor if you experience early symptoms of lithium toxicity such as diarrhea, vomiting, drowsiness, tremor, lack of coordination, ataxia, or muscular weakness.
